Fit and molding

Use the microwave method. You need a microwave, a wet paper towel, a shallow bowl of cold water and a microwave-safe plate.

  1. Wrap the mouthguard completely in the wet paper towel. If your guard has a strap, do not wrap the strap.
  2. Place it on the plate and microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  3. Carefully remove it, taking care not to collapse the soft walls, and dip it in the cold water for 3 to 5 seconds.
  4. Place it over your top teeth, bite down gently and press firmly with your fingers to mold it to your teeth, especially the outside walls.
  5. Close your mouth and suck your lips tightly against the guard. Keep pressing over your lips and hold for 1 minute 30 seconds.

The material keeps settling and gives an even tighter fit after 24 hours. A video tutorial is on the fitting guide.

No. The microwave method is recommended and needs no boiling. If you do not have a microwave, you can use the boiling method instead. Detailed fitting instructions come with every purchase.

Your top teeth. Place the guard over your upper teeth before game time.

Yes. Repeat the fitting process to remold it. You can remold it as many times as you need.

If needed, trim the back edges of the guard for a more comfortable fit.

Product and protection

The patented fitting material gives you a custom fit without the cost, wait or mail-in kit of a custom guard, and you can refit it multiple times. It lets athletes breathe, hydrate and communicate easily, and the material is hydrophobic, which helps prevent germs.

Yes. Goon Guard is slim, not bulky. It is designed to make talking, breathing and staying hydrated easy, so it should not get in the way of your game.

Goon Guard is built for contact and collision sports, including hockey, football, lacrosse, wrestling, field hockey, boxing, basketball, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and martial arts.

Both are sold as 2-packs and fit the same way. The strapped guard has a strap and the strapless guard does not. If your guard has a strap, keep the strap out of the wet paper towel when you heat it.

  1. Clean it with cold water and a toothbrush. Mouthwash is optional. Goon Guards are also dishwasher safe.
  2. Store it in its protected, ventilated case.
  3. Keep it away from high temperatures and hot surfaces, which can distort it and affect the fit.
  4. Do not chew on it. Chewing can rip, tear or pierce the guard and compromise the protection it provides.

Yes. Goon Guard has a limited dental warranty for defects in material and workmanship that could damage or injure the natural teeth of the original purchaser when the guard is fitted and used correctly in a supervised game or a coach-supervised practice. Sizing and braces

Yes. Goon Guard molds to fit over braces, and you can adjust and refit it as your teeth move.

Follow the standard fitting steps, with one change: do not press the guard against your braces or teeth. It forms naturally around the brackets and wires.

Goon Guard comes in two sizes. Youth is for ages 10 and under, and Adult is for ages 11 and up. You choose the size when you order.

Orders and shipping

Shipping is free on all US orders. For international orders, the shipping charge is calculated before you complete your order. Shipping costs are subject to change.

Orders take 1 to 3 business days to process before they ship. Most items are delivered by USPS within 3 to 5 business days, though some restrictions may apply. Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding US federal holidays.

Goon Guard ships to all 50 states and to US military APO addresses. For an APO address, enter the details in the correct fields at checkout to avoid delays.

Yes. Goon Guard ships to the countries listed in the shipping policy. All fees for international orders are shown before you pay, so check that your address is entered correctly.

If you choose standard international shipping, Goon Guard uses a shipping partner, OpenBorder, Inc. The transit time shown at checkout counts from when OpenBorder receives and processes your order, which can take an extra 1 to 3 business days. You get a tracking number once OpenBorder has fulfilled the order.

Contact Goon Guard within 1 hour of placing your order.

  • Address change: email customerservice@goonguard.com with "Address Correction" or "Change of Address" in the subject line. After the 1-hour window, you are responsible for any extra shipping costs from an incorrect address.
  • Cancellation: email within 1 hour for a full refund. Include your order number, name and the email used for the order. Cancellation cannot be guaranteed after 1 hour.

Email customerservice@goonguard.com promptly. Goon Guard can only reship or refund an order that is reported as undelivered within 7 days of the expected delivery date.

Every Goon Guard, strapped or strapless, is backed by a satisfaction guarantee. Within 30 days of delivery, Goon Guard will replace it free of charge or refund you. Each customer is eligible for one replacement.

  1. Download the refund form from the refund policy page, or request it by email. Include your name, order date, order number, product name, reason for the request and the products you are returning.
  2. Ship the form and the product to GOON GUARD Returns, 10100 Linn Station Road, Louisville, KY 40223. You pay for return shipping.

Once your package arrives, Goon Guard processes the refund within 48 hours of receipt, Monday to Thursday. Refunds go to your original payment method and can take 5 to 7 business days to appear, depending on your bank.

Shipping costs, accessories, cleaners, apparel and other non-mouthguard products cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Yes. Eligible customers can use HSA or FSA funds on the Goon Guard athletic mouthguard through Truemed.

  1. Add the Goon Guard athletic mouthguard to your cart.
  2. Check out as a guest. Make sure you are not signed in to Shop Pay.
  3. Select Truemed as your payment option.
  4. If you pay with your HSA or FSA card, you are done. Truemed sends the paperwork.

If you use a regular credit card instead, Truemed sends instructions for submitting a reimbursement request to your HSA or FSA administrator. Truemed is currently available in the US only. More details are on the HSA and FSA page.
